Sharing Renewable Power Sources with “Shared Charging” Public Power Island Systems

A Funded Project that develops the required systems, methods and operations, and models their impact on the user acceptance of BEV’s as well as on the power grid, is currently being conducted in the south off Austria. A group of 13 scientific institution and industrial partners is preparing for a full scale demonstration in 2028. This demonstrator should show the feasibility of fully localized and renewable energy sources for electro-mobility, thereby fully de-coupling the most common mobility needs from the energy grid. The project aims to enable this technology for public and semi-public proliferation, at shopping centers, railway station, and public parking facilities, as well as for employee parking at larger companies. Through modularization and cost driven architecture, the system should bring us very close to equip each parking slot with a cost efficient BEV charging option. Advanced, self-learning and need driven power distribution algorithms will charge BEV’S within the boundary conditions of renewable energy, while still satisfying the customer requirements.

In conversation with MFG: what it actually took to build the UK's largest ultra-rapid network

MFG EV Power runs more than 2,000 ultra-rapid bays across nearly 600 forecourt sites, close to 12% of the UK’s ultra-rapid charging capacity. Martin Symes sits down with AMPECO CRO Stefan Ivanov to trace how that was built: a deliberately narrow strategy, the £2.5 billion acquisition of 337 Morrisons forecourts, and what running charging on a forecourt actually demands. The conversation then turns to the gap Martin sees between what a driver experiences on a single UK network and what the same driver meets across Europe, where hundreds of operators and hundreds of different processes still arrive at the charge point. Expect the version with the caveats intact, including why he thinks MFG’s route into this market would be hard for anyone to repeat today.

Far From Finished – The Blueprint for Next-Gen Infrastructure Scale

The first generation of EV charging focused on expanding network coverage and reducing range anxiety. The next generation is about something far more complex: building resilient, high-throughput energy infrastructure capable of supporting fleets, megawatt charging and growing grid demands.

In this session, Wulf explores how charging networks are evolving from standalone charging points into intelligent energy hubs, combining dynamic power management, local energy storage and advanced software orchestration to unlock the next phase of e-mobility growth.

Interoperability – ISO 15118-2 and -20 ( TLS 1.2 and TLS 1.3)

ISO 15118-20 changes what TLS is for. Under ISO 15118-2, TLS was only required when Plug&Charge authentication was used. For most sessions it was optional, and plenty of implementations treated it that way. ISO 15118-20 mandates mutual TLS 1.3 for every charging session, with OCSP on both sides, and AFIR makes that binding for new and renovated public chargers from January 2027. That is the right direction: authenticated, encrypted communication stops being an add-on and becomes the baseline. It also means TLS is now a first-class interoperability surface, and much of the industry is meeting it for the first time.

Hubject sees that surface from an unusual position — operating the PKI the ecosystem trusts, running interoperability projects with OEMs, charger manufacturers and CPOs, and running the “EVSE_CHECK_ISO2_PNC” certification programme. What that perspective keeps showing is that the failures sit in TLS and certificate handling far more often than in application logic.

This session shares that catalogue as the questions implementers keep asking, and the answers testing gives. Can ISO 15118-20 certificate management be handled over OCPP 1.6? Do SECP256R1 certificates work in a -20 session? How do you handle private and public PKIs simultaneously? How many root certificates must be maintained in each trust store? A lot of upcoming interoperability issues can already be foreseen — let's stop them before they spread.

For developers, testers and architects on either side of the connector — so the ecosystem doesn't rediscover the same handshake failures charger by charger, EV by EV.

The future of Smart Charging is End-to-End — without End-to-End lock-in.

Smart Charging is evolving from a local charging process into a more complex energy ecosystem connecting vehicles, charging infrastructure, buildings, devices, grids and energy markets. As this ecosystem creates more value, collaboration, interoperability and modular architectures become essential for scaling. The keynote explores how End-to-End responsibility can be combined with customer choice — enabling open ecosystems without creating lock-in effects.

ACDER Service: Scalable Grid Integration of EV/EVSE enabled by ISO 15118-20 Amd. 1 Document

This session explains how ISO 15118-20:2022/Amd 1:2026 closes the missing communication link between AC bidirectional charging and grid-code-compliant operation. It introduces the AC_DER_IEC and AC_DER_SAE service models, examines national grid-code requirements, and traces how these requirements are communicated through OCPP 2.1 and ISO 15118-20 to the vehicle’s onboard inverter. It concludes with a practical validation architecture showing how charging communication and electrical grid response can be tested together.

Scale fast, stay efficient, keep customers happy. Easy to say, harder to execute. Andreas Strand, CEO of Wattif EV, shares lessons from scaling across multiple European markets. From building destination charging across different segments to integrating and migrating large charging portfolios, Wattif has grown to more than 60,000 charge points in just a few years. He is then joined on stage by CTO Øystein Tomassen to look at how a CPO builds an operating model that delivers at today’s scale and is ready for the next stage of growth.

OCPP as a Native RabbitMQ Protocol: Scaling to 1 Million Chargers on an Open-Source Message Broker

Every big CPO deployment — with smart charging, roaming, price-responsive scheduling, dynamic load management, and soon V2G — is, underneath, a messaging problem: hundreds of thousands of chargers holding persistent connections, with control messages that must reach entire fleets reliably and within seconds when energy prices or grid signals change. Yet most platforms still handle OCPP through custom gateways and closed middleware, so every manufacturer, CPO, and CSMS provider rebuilds and maintains the same integration layer alone.

We took a different route: we made OCPP a native protocol of RabbitMQ. Starting from the battle-tested architecture of RabbitMQ's Web MQTT plugin scalling to millions of connections (one can read read their blog post about MQTT), our open-source plugin lets EV chargers connect directly to the broker, with OCPP messages translated and exposed natively over AMQP. Backend services in any programming language simply consume from queues — inheriting RabbitMQ's routing, mutual TLS, monitoring, and horizontal scalability without another proprietary gateway in the middle.

This session shares what we learned building the plugin in Erlang: adapting an existing protocol plugin, handling connection deduplication across a cluster, terminating mutual TLS for OCPP Security Profile 3 why BEAM-style concurrency is a natural fit for fleets of devices that never disconnect and how to undergo OCA certification for it. We will show how the architecture supports real charging workloads — including integrating multiple variables like the day-ahead price, weather and sun, grid signals and user departure schedule, naturally fitting inside a message broker.

The connection to this year's theme is clear: an open smart charging ecosystem cannot scale if the foundational OCPP layer is not distributed. By moving charger connectivity into proven open-source messaging infrastructure, this project offers a reusable, secure, certifiable,  vendor-neutral foundation that hardware manufacturers, CPOs, CSMS providers, and energy companies can build on.

Build the Machine, Don't Do the Work

One year ago, AMPECO rebuilt software development around a simple principle: instead of using AI to help engineers work faster, build a machine that does the work. Today, every line of AMPECO's code is written autonomously by an AI "factory", with no human at the keyboard. A good specification goes in, working code comes out, and engineers review and give feedback until it is ready for release.The results: 7× more features shipped, around 80% fewer bugs, and daily releases, with the same team.AMPECO co-founder and CTO Alexander Alexiev walks through what the factory looks like from the inside, how the roles of engineers and QA changed, and why the pattern was never really about code. RFID 2.0: Rethinking Security in EV Charging

Today's RFID cards in EV charging authenticate with static identifiers that anyone can clone in seconds, a security model that fails the RED Directive and cannot scale across roaming networks. This session introduces nextGen RFID: certificate-backed RFID cards that bring PKI-grade authentication to the same tap-and-charge experience drivers already know. The design is built for collaboration at scale: it eliminates the need for bilateral secret-sharing between CPOs and eMSPs, enabling secure roaming through shared root certificates and protocol-level interoperability rather than proprietary agreements. Certificate validation, offline fallback, and revocation all rely on open standards already adopted by the ecosystem. The session will walk through the technical architecture, the layered security implementation levels (from identifier-only migration up to fully distributed certificate authorization), and the cross-stakeholder migration path needed to bring this to production across Europe and beyond.
