Asmelash Dagne
Asmelash Dagne is an Ethiopian environmental resource management specialist, permaculture practitioner, and renewable energy professional with more than 18 years of experience in sustainable development, agroecology, and appropriate technology. He holds an MSc in Environmental Resource Management with a focus on renewable technologies. He has extensive experience in permaculture design, agroforestry, climate-smart agriculture, integrated natural resource management, and solar energy systems.
Based in southern Ethiopia, Asmelash works with communities, educational institutions, NGOs, and development partners to develop practical solutions that connect environmental sustainability with resilient livelihoods and local economic development. He is the founder of Asmelash Dagne Agroecosystem Development & Solar Technology Consultancy and Trading, providing expertise in sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, water systems, and capacity building.
At icnc26, Asmelash will present the E-Mobility for Social Impact in Ethiopia initiative, an innovative model combining electric mobility, renewable energy, and social enterprise to improve access to healthcare and education in rural communities. The project uses revenue generated through electric transportation and charging infrastructure to support medical outreach, student transportation, local employment, and community development.
His work demonstrates how appropriate technologies and regenerative approaches can move beyond individual projects to create integrated, locally driven systems for ecological resilience, social wellbeing, and sustainable development.
